Kathmandu: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a public alert following continuous rainfall across various parts of the country, warning of rising water levels in several major rivers. The department has urged residents, especially those living near riverbanks and in low-lying areas, as well as travelers, to remain cautious and take necessary safety precautions.
In Bhaktapur, the water level at the Kaushaltar Hydrometer Station of the Hanumante River has reached the alert level. Authorities have reported that the level continues to rise, prompting a warning for the public to remain vigilant through the morning hours.
A similar situation has been reported in Rukum Paschim, where the Thulo Bheri River, monitored at the Rimna Hydrometer Station, is nearing the alert level. The department has called on residents living near the river and in flood-prone areas to stay alert to the possibility of sudden surges in water flow.
In Myagdi, the situation is more critical. The Myagdi River at the Mangalaghat Hydrometer Station has already surpassed the alert level. The department has warned of a heightened risk of landslides, particularly in areas close to riverbanks and in steep or geologically vulnerable zones. A special advisory was issued at midnight, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
As a precautionary measure, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged everyone to avoid going near rivers and to relocate to safer areas if possible. The advisory remains in effect until further notice. Authorities have also requested local disaster management bodies to be on high alert for any necessary emergency response or evacuation efforts.
